Ilomantsi is a diverse combination of marshlands, hills, virgin forests and water bodies. Here we have 25,000 hectares of nature conservation areas and reserves, and hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails. In Petkeljärvi and Patvinsuo National Parks nature is at its best.


The easily accessible rapids of Möhkönkoski are a popular spot for sport and recreational fishing.

Hiking Trails

There are hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails in Ilomantsi. We also have two national parks, Petkeljärvi and Patvinsuo.


The River Koitajoki is well-known for canoeing, also suitable for the beginners.


For cross-country skiing, you will find the ski trails at Parppei Sports Centre. For downhill skiing, drive to Mustavaara Ski Centre, 50 kilometres towards Joensuu.

Snow Mobiling

There are about 230 kilometres of snowmobile tracks in Ilomantsi area.
